...taking sites from disused and unsafe, to complete residential developments...

ERD are currently working on several large brownfield regeneration projects for residential development. These include redevelopment of former closed landfill sites.

Through the wealth of experience in the ERD team, we are able to remediate these brownfield sites, using a range of monitoring and geotechnical steps, taking sites from disused and potentially unsafe areas of open land to complete residential developments with planned open space, enhancing the environment.

An example of an ongoing project; remediating a former landfill site in Kent. This 25 acre site is currently being remediated for residential development

For this development a comprehensive preliminary investigation was undertaken; comprising a desk based assessment of the site, as part of a detailed redevelopment feasibility study. The assessment included the study of historical ordnance survey maps dating back to 1866, aerial photographs since 1946, waste disposal licenses and operational archive research. A detailed site history; both as a quarry and subsequently as a landfill site was established.

Site investigations were carried out in two stages; boreholes were installed to delineate the vertical and lateral extent of the quarry and to prove the basal profile of the quarried area. Extensive sampling from the boreholes and trial pits were assessed against the latest Generic Assessment Criteria (GAC) to derive the most conservative Soil Guideline Values and hence determine the most appropriate course of remediation.
